You Already Know Medicine. Now Learn the Operating System.

You’re a US-trained medic heading to British Columbia. Nobody needs to teach you how to run a call — you’ve run thousands. What you need is everything around the call: the law, the licence, the scope rules, the dispatch reality, the documentation standards, the union, the geography, and the thousand invisible ways BC differs from every US system you’ve worked in.

This is a conversion course, not a welcome-to-Canada slideshow — built by a US-trained medic who made this exact move and now works as a line medic in BC. The thesis is simple: you’re not here to learn medicine from scratch — you’re here to uninstall the wrong defaults.

Five blocks, plus a scenario lab and a driving module:

Block 1: The BC Operating System — one provincial service, one licensing board, one CPG universe. How BCEHS, EMALB, and the health authorities actually fit together, and why “who’s your medical director?” is the wrong question here.

Block 2: The Legal Skeleton — licence categories, scope by regulation (not by protocol nostalgia), the jurisprudence exam, consent and capacity, mature minors, the Mental Health Act, and patients in custody — followed by a Scenario Lab that runs four calls (a mature minor, a high-risk refusal, a patient in custody, a Section 28 apprehension) end to end.

Block 3: The Clinical Translation Layer — living in the BCEHS CPGs, CliniCall consultation culture, non-conveyance done properly, the toxic drug crisis, palliative pathways — plus the units-and-language translation every US medic needs before their first glucose reading in mmol/L.

Block 4: The Geography of Suffering — ferries, mountain passes, islands, weather, and what “backup” means when it’s forty minutes out. Resource scarcity as a clinical skill — plus a dedicated Driving Block: Class 4 licensing, winter mountain roads, wildlife, and the “arrive employable” culture.

Block 5: The Cultural Survival Guide — union and seniority life, station culture, documentation standards, working with nurses, physicians, police and fire — and how to be excellent without radiating “back in my system…” energy.
