You Already Know Medicine. Now Learn the Operating System.

You’re a US-trained medic heading to British Columbia. Nobody needs to teach you how to run a call — you’ve run thousands. What you need is everything around the call: the law, the licence, the scope rules, the dispatch reality, the documentation standards, the union, the geography, and the thousand invisible ways BC differs from every US system you’ve worked in.

This is a conversion course, not a welcome-to-Canada slideshow — built by a US-trained medic who made this exact move and now works as a line medic in BC. The thesis is simple: you’re not here to learn medicine from scratch — you’re here to uninstall the wrong defaults. And underneath every lesson runs one quiet theme: you’re joining a mature provincial system built to carry the people who work in it.

The course is a story in five acts, with a gate at the front:

Lesson 0: The Three Green Lights — before you invest a year in this, an honest eligibility check: the licensing pathway, the immigration route, and the full-time-job reality. All three have to be green before anything else matters.

Act I — The Place. Context before rules: The Geography of BC (the province, its capital, its cities and valleys, and how far north “north” really is), Government Without a President (MPs, MLAs, and why nearly everything that matters to a paramedic is provincial), and Healthcare in BC (the public system you’ll work inside and live inside — health authorities, MSP, and the ecosystem your dispositions will run through).

Act II — The Service & The Work. The heart of the conversion: BCEHS: One Province, One Service (the scale, the fleet, the air side, the radio codes, and the onboarding that awaits you), The Distance Equation (geography as a clinical variable, and why transfers deserve respect), The Legislative Landscape (paramedics are clinicians here — licence categories, scope by regulation, the jurisprudence exam, the Mental Health Act), a Scenario Lab that runs four consent-and-custody calls end to end, Clinical Translation (living in the CPGs, CliniCall, non-conveyance done properly, the toxic drug crisis, palliative pathways), Drugs & Calculations (mmol/L, kilograms, and the doses that don’t match your muscle memory), and Driving BC (Class 4, winter mountain roads, and the “arrive employable” culture).

Act III — The Career. The Cultural Survival Guide (union life, station culture, and how to be excellent without radiating “back in my system…” energy), Finances & Career Math (the wage grid, the overtime reality, and a defined-benefit pension with paramedic early retirement — this job is built to be retired from), and WorkSafe & The Calls That Stay (your right to refuse unsafe work, the mental-health presumption, and the support stack that comes with them).

Act IV — The Move. The Family’s First 90 Days — the operational landing plan: SINs, the credit reset, tenancy, schools, importing the truck, and the paperwork-and-tax reality of landing a whole household in BC.

Act V — The Welcome. After all the hard parts, Welcome to BC: the reasons this move is worth it — and where to start exploring.

Free, by invitation. If you have an invitation code, redeem it above. If you don’t, ask the person who sent you here.
